PROJECT KNOWLEDGE - the project learning newsletter
Dear Project Manager, Volume 8, number 3

Welcome to Project Learning’s third newsletter of 2010. This has certainly been a very busy year for us so far, and we’re really excited about how Project Managers can be at the forefront of the worldwide economic recovery. We realise that a sustained recovery will take time and that there’s plenty still to be done; but meaningful investments in worthwhile projects will help to move things in a positive direction.

In this newsletter, we’re concentrating on two Microsoft Project matters; using Earned Value Analysis to evaluate project performance and an overview of the powerful new capabilities found within Microsoft Project 2010 and Project Server 2010.

Sincerely

Andy Jessop
CEO and Founder

Earned Value Explained (EVA) - The 5 Minute Movie Part Two

Earlier this year we posted an Introduction to Earned Value Analysis (or EVA) screencast that provided a valuable insight into the capabilities of this powerful analytical tool. In this newsletter, we’re sharing with you the second (of four) EVA screencasts that will take you deeper into EVA techniques and capabilities.

Taken from Project Mentor - which has over 80 instructional movies - this screencast helps you find and assess EVA variances to your project’s schedule and budget. In particular,

  • Finding EVA schedule and cost variances.
  • Using pre-defined tables to analyse these variances.
  • Using filters to determine the impact of EVA schedule and cost variances.

The movie contains an audio commentary, so don’t forget to turn your speakers on.

We’ll share screencasts three and four with you later this year. In the meantime, we hope that you like this second screencast. If you missed it, watch the first screencast here.

Want to know what else Project Mentor can help you with?

Project Mentor costs just USD $249 or GBP £169 and comes with a 60 day no questions asked guarantee.

The cost of a comparable classroom course would set you back almost three times as much.

Microsoft Project 2010 Launch

During June, Project Learning got out on the road to help Microsoft New Zealand launch MS Project 2010.

At three sold-out presentations in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch; Andy Jessop together with presenters from other NZ-based partners showcased the new functionality and explained its benefits to a very receptive audience.

All attendees had the opportunity to share the presentation’s slide deck and we’d like to share this with you as well.
