Project Learning Newsletter

Volume 3, No.6

Dear Andy,

Welcome to the sixth Project Learning newsletter of 2005.  As the Summer holiday season is still with us (although its currently raining), we've consolidated the July and August newsletters into one edition.

The most exciting announcement this month is the revised and upgraded Test Drive for Project Mentor.  If you are a Project Companion user, why not download an Evaluation Kit and find out more about the critically-acclaimed content within its parent system, Project Mentor?

With this month's tips and tricks, we've gone 'back to basics' for an introduction to resource assignments.  If you wanted to know about the fundamentals of assignments (or were afraid to ask), why not review the tips and tricks for yourself?

Finally, why not take a look at our Knowledge Base of essential downloads, service packs and technical documentation?

Sincerely,

Andy Jessop
CEO and Founder

Upgraded Evaluation Kit

With Project Mentor Evaluation Kit downloads now well past the 1,000 mark, we've had plenty of positive (and sometimes critical) comments about the content within the kit.  One key comment was that the old kit's Test Drive didn't provide a rich-enough look and feel of the full Project Mentor system.

The result, we're delighted to say, is an upgraded Evaluation Kit.  Within the kit, you'll find:

  • Additional (and enriched) factsheets and whitepapers.
  • A completely-updated Test Drive with additional learning content.
  • Plus and enhanced user interface, modelled on our recently-upgraded website.

The new Evaluation Kit is now available as a no-cost download.  To try it out for yourself, just go to:

Tips and Tricks

A fundamental Microsoft Project Skill (especially if you are working in an Enterprise environment) is to understand the nature of resource assignments.  On many training courses over the past few years, we’ve had requests for a ‘back to basics’ introduction about how assignments (and hence work and cost) are scheduled.

These tips and tricks illustrate how assignments are created, work is aggregated and costs are calculated.  In addition, resource conflicts are examined.  All the examples shown were created using Microsoft Excel for illustrative purposes, but would be scheduled in exactly the same manner by Microsoft Project.

Microsoft Project Knowledge Base

One of the most popular upgrades to our website has been to incorporate links to popular downloads, service packs and technical documentation all on one easy-to-use page.  Within our Knowledge Base we've collated an essential collection of links, selected from many disparate websites around the world.

If you haven't already visited the Knowledge Base, just go to:

If you know of any links we should add to the Knowledge Base, just contact me at andyj@projectlearning.net
