Dear Andy,

Welcome to the fourth Project Learning newsletter of 2005.  I'm delighted to tell you about a review of our Project Mentor system in the highly-regarded 'Project' magazine.  The reviewer, Donna Unitt, sees Project Mentor as "A boon for the busy project manager."  Just see below to find out more.

To accompany this month's newsletter, tips and tricks explain the intricacies of resource levelling.  Unlike previous tips and tricks that can also be found in Project Companion, this month's can only be found within the Project Mentor system itself.  To find out more about Project Mentor, take a look at the recent magazine review.

Sincerely,

Andy Jessop

Project Mentor review

In the April 2005 edition of Project magazine, Donna Unitt reviews the latest version of our Project Mentor system.  Here are some of her comments:

"It's the type of product that you will be dipping into no matter how much you use MS Project."
"Project Mentor is like having your own tutor on hand on your PC that you can call upon when you need to - the ideal tool for today's busy project managers."

Technical Tips and Tricks

How many of us view the many levelling parameters within Microsoft Project as a bewildering array of options?  How many of us have clicked the ‘Level Now’ button and wished we hadn’t?

As the levelling process can reschedule both tasks and assignments, it is important to understand how levelling works and what it does to your project’s schedule.  Once you know the benefits and the possible pitfalls associated with levelling, you will be able to decide when and how to use this powerful tool, confident that it is trying to optimise your project and not being detrimental to it.

If you click on the link below, these tips and tricks explain the levelling options available and the impact that they can have.

Test your Microsoft Project knowledge

If you have reed the review above, or you're familiar with Microsoft Project, you'll know that it is a pretty comprehensive piece of software.  So, why not have a go at our Microsoft Project Quiz?

We've complied a sample of ten questions so you can test your Microsoft Project knowledge.  Each question carries a weighted percentage score and covers a particular skill set that would be used in the planning and management of a Microsoft Project plan.  With only ten questions we cannot guarantee this assessment is a comprehensive one, although it should provide you with a reasonable assessment of what you currently know.  Just click on the link below to go to the quiz.
